Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. When using Reiki to heal, the practitioner channels healing energy through the hands to the animal either directly or from a distance via the charka centres, auras, nadis or meridian channels A person becomes a Reiki practitioner after a number of “energy attunements” and learning to work with the body to harmonise energy patterns.      Two well known “hands on” animal energy healers are Margrit Coates (UK) and Kathleen Prasad (USA). They have developed techniques and methods for working with animals and have documented success with a range of emotional and physical problems.
HELEN ANDERSON Promoting Health, Wellness & Performance with Natural Therapies
Treatment and how might my animal benefit ? Through hands on healing, animals respond intuitively to Reiki's power to heal emotional, behavioural, and physical illnesses and injuries. Healing does not have to be done directly on the animal’s body, it can be done within the animals aura.  Some animals prefer to receive energetic healing at some distance which allows the animal to move around and feel less constrained. A Reiki treatment can be for 15 minutes or up to an hour.  Animals generally become extremely relaxed and may even fall asleep during Reiki. Reiki is safe and non invasive – the energy  goes to those issues most in need of healing.       Reiki can be useful in a range of situations including  - Emotional trauma / abuse / neglect Fear and trust issues Stress or behavioural problems - high strung or nervous animals Recuperation from surgery or injury Palliative care situations Immune problems or animals with low energy
